Fönstret har följt hennes arbete på Amnesty internationals huvudkontor i London. I februari 2016 klev Albert Woodfox ut från en fängelsecell i Lousiana i USA

It’s been this way for 42 years. Albert has been held in solitary confinement for longer than virtually any other prisoner in the USA. Albert Woodfox is the last of the Angola 3 to be released. The group comprised three men placed in isolation in Angola prison in the early 1970s: Albert, Herman Wallace, and Robert King. Albert and Herman were convicted of murdering a prison guard in 1972; Robert, was separately convicted of the murder of another Angola prisoner the following year. Albert Woodfox, February 2016 With the knowledge of his release, Albert had this message for those who have helped him secure his freedom: I want to thank my brother Michael for sticking with me all these years, and Robert King, who wrongly spent nearly 30 years in solitary. Albert Woodfox has spent the last 40 years alone in a tiny US prison cell. His old friend Robert King - who was also imprisoned for decades in the notorious Angola prison - tells us how Albert's political courage and global support are keeping him going, despite the pain and isolation.

Enough is enough.

Racism was rife. Albert decided to take a stand – and it cost him. Albert’s story is one of surviving when the odds are stacked against you, of fighting for rights in the most desperate of situations, and of friendship, comradery and solidarity That Albert Woodfox survived was, in itself, a feat of extraordinary endurance against the violence and deprivation he faced daily.

CONTACT: Mandy Simon, [email protected] (WASHINGTON) – In response to a U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit decision overturning a previous decision to release Albert Woodfox immediately from prison, Amnesty International USA released the following statement.

Jasmine Heiss, Senior Campaigner for Individuals at Risk at Amnesty USA, said: Albert Woodfox’s release was long overdue and undeniably just. Nothing will truly repair the cruel, inhuman and degrading solitary confinement that the state of Louisiana inflicted upon him.
